Powerhouse contemporary Christian music group, Citizen Way, originating from Elgin, Illinois dropped their highly anticipated 11 track album on Friday. With familiar songs such as WaveWalker and The Lord's Prayer along with some updated and remixed hymns thrown into the mix, this album, predicts to be a cherished one. Let's break down each song and look into the lyrics and instrumental part of each song.
Let's start off with the beginning of the album, single "The Lord's Prayer". This song takes the passage Matthew 6:9-13 and gives it a modern feel with upbeat instruments and vocals that really wake you up. They make use of the echo effect to update this traditional song.
"Love Has Won" is the second song on the album and reminds me of a modern ballad with smooth vocals and a melody that carries beautifully throughout the song. "Oh, can you hear the angels sing? Death is dead, we're finally free. How sweet the sound, how sweet, how sweet, all creation will bow, and we'll sing. Hallelujah, love has won. Hallelujah, love has won. God is with us, thank you Jesus. Though the battle rages on, hallelujah, love has won." This song is talking about that we are all involved in spiritual warfare but in the grand scheme of things, we do not have to worry because we already know that Love Has Won.
Track number 3, "Mountains" has a beat that is a new sound to the Citizen Way repertoire. While the track is more upbeat, the vocals are still clean and powerful. "You still move mountains. You made them stand tall. You can make them look small. So I'm gonna trust You, no matter what." These words are extremely powerful that say that God still moves mountains, even if we don't see it all the time. This is a phrase that can be physical and metaphorical in many ways.
Moving on to "God You Are Good", which starts off with a beautiful guitar intro. This song has a vibe similar to "Reckless Love" and "How He Loves" in the fact of that those were both pretty big worship songs the years that they came out and I predict that this one will be the same.
"Peace Like A River" starts off with an intro riff unlike any other song out there today. The vocals have different techniques being used, making it a very unique sounding song. "I had to lost it all to find what I really have. Money turns to ash, power doesn't last; and all I need You gave to me for free. Peace like a river, I can't explain. I don't understand, how there's joy in the pain. You dried up my tears like sun in the rain. There's power in Your name, oh, there's power in Your name, 'cause I've got peace, peace, peace, like a river." Earthly positions don't matter. Everything that we need, God has given us access to for free. Once we really let go of everything here and live truly for Him, we will find what we truly have and need. Once we accomplish that, the peace that we feel is so overwhelming in an incredible way.
"The Hope Song" takes Citizen Way back to their roots of "When I'm With You." It's an upbeat song that makes a powerful anthem of hope. The vocals pair perfectly with the instrumental side of the song. "I been living in my past, like some ol' dirty rags, for so long, so long. I forgot that I'm forgiven and oh how I've cried. But somehow You turned all my tears and my fears into something so beautiful 'cause You are my hope." We have a hope for the future which means we don't have to live in the past anymore. What we did before we found forgiveness is washed away once we ask Jesus into our hearts and ask for repentance.
Songs also included on this album are title track, "Love Is A Lion", "You Loved Me Anyway", "Hallowed Be Thy Name", "Be Still", and of course, "WaveWalker" feat. Bart Millard. Check out "Love Is A Lion" by Citizen Way on Google Play, Itunes, Spotify, Apple Music, and wherever CD's are sold.
