Hey everyone, hope it's been a good week so far! It's been crazy busy with finals week in college but now it's over so I have some time to blog today! I'm going to go in a bit of a different direction today. Instead of reviewing a song or showing the deeper meaning behind a song, I thought it would be cool to post a mini-devotional for the day, if you like it please let me know in the comments and I'll do more of these! So let's jump right in. 1 Peter 2:9 says the following "You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness and into his wonderful light." If you read the verses before and after that it talks about once you receive mercy, you are part of God's chosen people but not until that point. You have to repent and turn to Jesus and once you do that you can receive mercy and be a part of His chosen people. Something I was reading in another devotional about this verse was that when we as humans make decisions, we chose exclusively. But when God chooses, He chooses inclusively...which means that He chooses everyone all the time. Isn't that such a great comfort to hear? I read that in the book "Unshakable" by Christine Caine which I highly recommend if you haven't read it. This next part is a little bit off topic but something that God has been teaching me lately is to do things on His terms in His timing, not our terms in our timing. When you make a decision purely based on self-gain and not focused on God, the outcome will be far less in value than when you are focused on what God wants for you. Trust me, it can be hard to give up the control that you think you have of your life but in reality, even when you think you have control, you don't. God always has control of all of our lives. Sure we have free will to make our own decisions but in the grand scheme of things, God's hand is in everything that we do. Even when we screw up, if we let Him, He is there to guide us back to the path that we are meant to be on. So, lessons for the day? Choose Jesus and you'll be one of His chosen people and let God have control of every aspect of your life, not just a little bit. Thanks for reading and let me know what you thought in the comments! I'd love to write more of these if you like them, I really enjoyed writing it!
