Britt Nicole is a singer and songwriter who sings both Christian and pop music, both of which kind of intertwine into the other with her music. Her title track to her latest album, Gold, was released November 13th, 2012. On the US Christian Digital Songs chart, she reached the number 1 slot while on the billboard hot 100 receiving the 83rd spot. Gold reached number 28 on the Mainstream Top 40 chart as well. Nicole said the following about her song, "Gold is all about defining us, who God says we are regardless of how we see, feel, or have been told. Sometimes it's hard for me to see myself the way God sees me. When we look at ourselves we see our brokenness, our imperfections, and our mistakes on the inside and out. We let a lot of voices tell us who we are." There she's saying that the lyrics mean that we see ourselves as not good enough or not loved. God sees us so much differently than we see ourselves, but sometimes we forget that.
Nicole also stated this, "He says that we are loved, that we are beautiful, and I wanna believe that for myself. I wanna know who God says I am and walk in that confidence and I want others to know who they are." That's one of the main reasons that she wrote this song. She wanted other people to look at themselves the way that God does and she wanted everyone that hears the song to confidence in the person that God made them to be. "When everybody keeps score, afraid you're gonna lose, just ignore they don't know the real you. All the rain in the sky can't put out your fire, of all the stars out tonight, you shine brighter" are some of the words in her extremely powerful song. The words are saying that you don't have to worry about keeping score because you can be exactly who God made you to be. The last thing that Nicole said about this song is this "The only voice we need to listen to is God's. God says that you are worth more than gold. Don't be ashamed to wear your crown, you're a king, you're a queen, inside and out." That very last sentence that she said is the last line of the song Gold and is an extremely truthful line. Take a listen to this great song.
