MercyMe is a Christian rock band founded in 1994. The band released six independent albums before signing with any record label. They recently released their newest album, Lifer on March 31st, 2017 and is their ninth studio album. The song "I Can Only Imagine" is a song off of their album "Almost There" and got MercyMe a Dove award for song of the year, but it wasn't until a couple years later that their song started to get lots of radio play and attention. This song, in particular, came from a hard time in Bart Millard's (frontman) life. Millard's father passed away when he was in college and it was very hard on him. According to https://icanonlyimagine.com/themovie, it took Bart only 10 minutes to write the lyrics, but it actually took a lifetime to write the song. The song is about Bart considering what it will be like one day in Heaven when we stand in front of God. "Will I be able to speak at all, I Can Only Imagine" is a line from part of the song and he is basically saying how will I react? The presence of God is so powerful as described in the Bible. We can not look at God here on Earth because of all his perfect glory, and so seeing Him someday will be such an amazing experience, will we be able to say a word, or will we stand in awe and not say anything? All we can do is imagine, we can't know for sure until God calls us home. This song is one that has been relevant for many decades and will continue to be popular because there is a movie coming this spring of the same name starring Dennis Quaid, Trace Adkins, J. Micheal Finley, Jason Burkey, and many more. Go check out the rest of MercyMe's music at mercyme.org! Listen to the hit song that's inspired generations!
